Surrender in Pasay Brings Break in Tragic Leyte Double Killing

The surrender of three suspects in Pasay City has marked a significant development in one of Eastern Visayas’ most heartbreaking cases this year the abduction and killing of former Abuyog Vice Mayor James Bohol and his son, Carlou James “Jimbo” Bohol.

According to authorities, the three suspects voluntarily surrendered to the Pasay City Police Station at around 10 p.m. on June 30 and are now set to be transported back to Leyte, where they will be formally turned over to the appropriate police unit for further investigation and legal proceedings.

Investigators believe the suspects forcibly took the former local official and his son from their office inside a warehouse in Barangay Sta. Cruz, Mayorga, Leyte, at approximately 1 p.m. on June 27. What began as a missing persons case soon evolved into a tragedy that gripped communities across Leyte and beyond.

The search ended in sorrow on Tuesday when authorities discovered two bodies in a ravine measuring seven to eight meters deep along a roadside in Barangay Imelda, Silago, Southern Leyte, roughly a kilometer from the town center. The Police Regional Office 8 later confirmed that the remains belonged to the former vice mayor and his son after their identities were verified by family members.

In the days before the grim discovery, hope remained alive among relatives and supporters. The former vice mayor’s daughter turned to social media in a desperate appeal for assistance after reports emerged that the suspects had boarded a ferry from Sta. Clara Port in Allen, Northern Samar, bound for Matnog, Sorsogon. At the time, the fate of her father and brother was still unknown, and many held on to the possibility that they would be found alive.

The case has sent shockwaves throughout Leyte, raising concerns over public safety and underscoring the devastating impact of violent crime on families and communities. The deaths of a former public servant and his son have left residents mourning while demanding swift justice and accountability.

Police Regional Office 8 assured the public that all investigative and operational efforts are being exhausted to ensure the case is solved completely. Investigators continue to gather evidence and build the necessary documentation for the filing of appropriate criminal charges against those responsible.

As the legal process moves forward, the people of Leyte await answers, accountability, and justice for two lives cut short in a tragedy that has deeply affected the region.
