A 15-year-old suspect has been arrested following a deadly shooting at the Bite of Seattle food festival that left three people dead and four others injured, including a two-year-old boy, as authorities continue searching for a second individual believed to have been involved in the attack. SEATTLE, Washington — A tragic outbreak of gun violence shattered what was meant to be a joyful community celebration after a shooting at the popular Bite of Seattle food festival left three people dead and at least four others injured, including a two-year-old child. Authorities have confirmed that the primary suspect taken into custody is only 15 years old, raising renewed concerns about youth violence and gun-related crime in the United States.
During a press conference on Monday, Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson announced that the teenage suspect is currently being held in juvenile detention while being investigated for firearms violations and first-degree assault. The suspect was scheduled to make an initial court appearance later that afternoon as investigators continued to piece together the events that unfolded during one of Seattle’s largest annual public gatherings.

“Suddenly everything was empty,” Ramirez said. “People were freaked out.”
He recalled that even after the first wave of panic, additional visitors continued arriving at the festival without realising what had happened. Police officers immediately instructed them to leave as emergency operations intensified.
Another attendee, Estan Wakonabo, described the frightening stampede that unfolded as hundreds of people attempted to escape simultaneously.
He said he and his girlfriend had been waiting in line at a photo booth when someone suddenly shoved him from behind. Turning around, he saw a wall of people running towards them.
“People were hiding, were pushing, people were falling on the ground, baby strollers were falling,” Wakonabo said.
Moments later, he heard the unmistakable sound of gunfire.
“Once I heard a ‘pop, pop, pop,’ that’s when I knew it was a shooter,” he recalled.
After ensuring that his girlfriend reached safety, Wakonabo returned to the scene to document the aftermath and witnessed multiple victims lying on the ground as emergency responders rushed to provide lifesaving treatment.
By Monday morning, the festival grounds had fallen eerily quiet. Vendors who had abandoned their booths during the chaos returned to clean up, while city officials prepared for a candlelight vigil at Seattle Center’s International Fountain to honour the victims and support grieving families.
As investigators continue gathering surveillance footage, interviewing witnesses, and analysing forensic evidence, authorities remain focused on identifying the second suspected gunman and determining the exact sequence of events that led to one of Seattle’s deadliest public shootings in recent years.
