The Department of Education (DepEd) Schools Division of Benguet has banned school-related activities on weekends and holidays, including make-up classes, trainings, workshops, and meetings, to give learners and personnel more time for rest, family, and personal matters.
BENGUET — In a move prioritising the well-being of learners and personnel, the Department of Education (DepEd) Schools Division of Benguet has formally barred school-related activities on weekends and holidays, protecting their time for rest and family.
Issued through Division Memorandum No. 333, s. 2026, on September 1, the directive follows a consensus reached during the DepEd-Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) Management Committee Meeting held on August 25–26. It strictly prohibits make-up classes, training sessions, workshops, meetings, and other curricular, co-curricular, and extracurricular activities on Saturdays, Sundays, and designated holidays.
The policy aims to give students, teachers, and other school personnel ample time to rest, reconnect with their families, and attend to personal matters. It responds to concerns that school-related responsibilities have increasingly extended into days traditionally intended for rest and family life.

The memorandum also sets guidelines for overseas travel by teaching personnel during the instructional period. Those who wish to travel abroad must arrange for a colleague to handle their classes. Without such arrangements, international travel will only be allowed during scheduled end-of-term breaks. All travel must comply with DepEd Order No. 043, s. 2022, and DepEd Order No. 046, s. 2022.
Schools Division officials have directed the immediate implementation of the policy and called on school heads, teachers, and personnel across Benguet to observe the new guidelines.
The measure seeks to establish a healthier balance between professional responsibilities and personal time by ensuring that weekends and holidays remain available for rest, family, and personal matters.
