₱1 million in school chairs and vital medical equipment has landed in Villaba, Leyte, as LDS Charities, led by Arnold Daradal, delivers critical support to schools and health workers facing long-standing shortages in the community.
VILLABA, LEYTE — Nearly ₱1 million worth of classroom chairs and medical equipment has been donated to Villaba, Leyte, by Latter-day Saints Charities, providing much-needed support to schools struggling with inadequate furniture and helping strengthen healthcare services for local residents.
ADSThe donation, which totaled ₱914,100, included ₱677,600 worth of plastic armchairs for students across seven recipient schools and ₱236,500 worth of medical supplies and equipment for the town’s local health services.
The contribution comes as a welcome relief for schools that have long relied on old and damaged chairs, making it difficult for students to maintain a comfortable and conducive learning environment.
At Hinabuyan National High School, the need for new classroom furniture had been raised for years. School Head Teacher Helen Paroco said the school had been requesting new chairs for its students since 2022.
The Department of Education Leyte Division previously identified Villaba as one of the areas facing a shortage of usable armchairs, making the municipality a priority recipient of the assistance.

Beyond education, the humanitarian initiative also extended to healthcare, with the donation including rapid dengue test kits, blood pressure monitors, stethoscopes, fetal Dopplers, glucometers, glucose strips, and lancets.
For the Villaba Rural Health Unit, the medical supplies are expected to help address limited resources and support the delivery of faster and more reliable medical services to residents.
Municipal Health Officer Dr. Oliver Razo welcomed the assistance, emphasizing its potential to expand the health unit’s capacity to respond to the medical needs of the community.
ADSThe donations were formally received by Vice Mayor Edgar Veloso during a turnover ceremony held at Villaba South Central School, attended by school heads and local health workers.
In his message, Veloso acknowledged the challenges faced by local governments in meeting the needs of their constituents, particularly amid an ongoing crisis.
“With the ongoing crisis, the local government unit cannot provide all the needs of the people, but there are donors willing to help. I would like to express my sincere appreciation for these generous contributions. This donation reflects your genuine concern for the welfare of the people of Villaba,” Veloso said.
The initiative was also welcomed by Arnold Daradal, president of the Ormoc Philippines Stake of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, who said their humanitarian efforts are rooted in the teachings of Jesus Christ, particularly the values of service and love for others.
Daradal emphasized that their mission is not limited to helping members of their church but extends to the wider community, regardless of religious affiliation.
Through the donation, the organization has provided more than classroom furniture and medical supplies. It has helped address practical needs in education and healthcare—two essential areas that directly affect the welfare and future of Villaba’s residents.
Latter-day Saints Charities is the humanitarian arm of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It supports communities through humanitarian assistance, self-reliance initiatives, and community service programs.
