August–September 2026 NLE Assesses Knowledge, Ethics and Clinical Judgment
The 2026 Philippine Nurse Licensure Examination held in August and September examined the overall preparedness of nursing graduates for professional responsibilities and patient care.
The test covered the essential fields of nursing practice, including basic nursing and professional adjustment, maternal and child care, community and communicable disease nursing, nursing care for adolescents, adults and older persons, and psychiatric and mental health nursing.
It also measured competencies based on the 11 areas of responsibility prescribed under the Competency Standards of Nursing Practice in the Philippines.
These responsibilities were divided into four areas. Patient Care Competencies addressed safe care delivery, communication, collaboration, teamwork, and health education. Empowering Competencies focused on legal and ethical obligations, moral and spiritual responsibilities, and continuing professional development. Enabling Competencies covered resources, environmental management, and accurate records. Enhancing Competencies centered on nursing research and quality improvement.
The five-part examination consisted of Community Health Nursing under Nursing Practice I; care of healthy or at-risk mothers and children under Nursing Practice II; and care for clients with physiologic and psychosocial alterations under Nursing Practice III, IV and V.
The broad coverage reflects the range of responsibilities that nurses may encounter as they enter professional healthcare practice.
