Prince William Reveals Favourite Film Genre and Christopher Nolan Obsession

Prince William has revealed his favourite films and unusual way of relaxing away from royal duties, sharing his admiration for acclaimed filmmaker Christopher Nolan and his psychologically intense movies during a special appearance on The Graham Norton Show. The Prince of Wales also discussed his family’s enthusiasm for the BBC reality series The Celebrity Traitors, offering a rare glimpse into his life beyond the royal spotlight.

Prince William has offered a rare glimpse into his personal life, revealing his love of psychologically intense films, action blockbusters and family television nights as he explained how he unwinds from the pressures of royal duties.

The Prince of Wales shared these details during a special appearance on The Graham Norton Show, where he discussed his interests outside his official responsibilities. While many might expect the future King to prefer quieter pastimes, William revealed that music and films play an important role in helping him relax.

“It is music and film. I love getting immersed in deep-thinking films,” William said, describing his enthusiasm for movies that challenge the mind while delivering compelling entertainment.

Among his favourite filmmakers is acclaimed director Christopher Nolan, whose work includes the Dark Knight trilogy. William praised Nolan’s ability to combine complex ideas, psychological depth and thrilling action, explaining why the director’s films remain among his favourites.

“I like action films too, but I like something a bit different. I’m a big fan of everything Christopher Nolan does. His films are fantastic – The Dark Knight series is psychologically dark and deep, and I absolutely love that,” the Prince said.

William also praised Nolan’s distinctive approach to filmmaking, highlighting how the director transforms ambitious and unconventional concepts into entertaining cinematic experiences.

“He takes concepts that are completely out there and makes them incredibly entertaining,” he added.

Beyond his interest in psychological thrillers and action films, William revealed that television has also become a popular pastime in the Wales household. The Prince said his family had been enjoying the BBC reality series The Celebrity Traitors, which has reportedly captured the attention of his children, including Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

His enthusiasm for the programme even led to a humorous encounter with former EastEnders actor Ross Kemp. William recalled seeing Kemp the day after the show’s first episode and playfully testing the actor’s reaction.

“I saw Ross Kemp the day after the first episode and I couldn’t help but try – in the most appropriate way – to touch him to see what reaction I got from him,” William said.

“Turns out he was really jumpy!”

The anecdote offered a light-hearted glimpse into the Prince’s sense of humour and showed how his interest in entertainment extends beyond watching films and television at home.

William appeared on the programme alongside Oscar-winning actress Cate Blanchett, Australian wildlife conservationist Robert Irwin and actress Hannah Waddingham. His appearance also provided an opportunity to discuss his wider interests and his work supporting environmental initiatives.

Despite his enjoyment of films and television, the Prince of Wales continues to maintain a busy schedule of royal engagements and charitable commitments. His environmental work includes the Earthshot Prize, an initiative established to support innovative solutions to some of the world’s most pressing environmental challenges.

The awards programme brings together environmental innovators, business leaders and public figures to recognise projects working towards a more sustainable future.

William’s comments offered royal watchers a glimpse into the more personal side of his life, highlighting how entertainment, family activities and his love of cinema help him balance his public responsibilities with time away from official duties.
