Police Regional Office 8 has confirmed that a junior high school student from Tolosa National High School is behind online threats circulated through multiple dummy social media accounts. Authorities clarified that the alleged plan for a massive gunshot attack has no basis, as no evidence of organized crime or a coordinated plot was found. The case is being handled under child protection guidelines, with counseling and interventions set, while the public is urged to rely only on verified information.

TOLOSA, LEYTE — The Police Regional Office 8 (PRO-8) has confirmed and resolved a reported online threat targeting Tolosa National High School in this municipality, identifying a junior high school student as the one responsible for posting the alarming messages.
In an official statement released, PRO-8 said it treated the report with utmost seriousness as soon as it was received. Authorities immediately mobilized the Provincial Intelligence Unit, Leyte Police Provincial Office, and the Tolosa Municipal Police Station to verify the information and trace the source of the threat.
Following a thorough investigation and intelligence gathering, law enforcement officers were able to identify the individual behind the threatening posts. The probe revealed that the suspect is a currently enrolled junior high school student at Tolosa National High School. Police further discovered that the student had created and used multiple dummy or fake social media accounts to spread the threatening messages, likely to conceal their identity and amplify the impact of the posts.

“Acting swiftly, PRO-8 coordinated with the student and their family and immediately addressed the situation and ensured that appropriate interventions were undertaken,” the statement read.
Importantly, the regional police clarified that there is no evidence or information indicating that the threat was part of an organized criminal plan, nor was there any confirmation of a supposed massive gunshot attack as claimed in the posts. The investigation found no links to other individuals or groups, ruling out a coordinated plot against the school or the community.
As part of standard procedure, the case has been turned over to the proper authorities for appropriate action. Counseling and necessary interventions will be provided, aligned with existing laws and child protection policies, in consideration of the age and status of the student involved.
To ensure continued safety and security, PRO-8 has directed all police units in the region to intensify intelligence monitoring, strengthen coordination with schools and local government units, and increase police visibility in and around educational institutions across Eastern Visayas.
The police also issued an appeal to the public to avoid sharing unverified information, which could cause unnecessary fear, confusion, or public alarm. Residents are advised to remain calm but vigilant, and to rely only on official updates and verified statements released by authorized government channels.
Remulla: Possible School Violence in Leyte Averted; 14-Year-Old Student Identified as Source of Threat
Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Jonvic Remulla disclosed today, June 24, that law enforcement authorities successfully prevented a potential violent incident at a school in Leyte, following timely information relayed by Senator Bam Aquino.
Remulla said the alert was raised after Senator Aquino, who was in Tacloban City on Wednesday evening, received and shared details regarding a supposed threat targeting an educational institution in the province. The information was immediately turned over to the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) for thorough verification and appropriate response.
The threat was later confirmed to be directed at Tolosa National High School in the municipality of Tolosa, Leyte. As part of the probe, authorities traced the source of the alarming messages to a 14-year-old student enrolled at the same school.
“The information was immediately referred to the CIDG for verification and appropriate action,” Secretary Remulla stated.
Investigations revealed that the threats were circulated through social media posts. However, Remulla clarified that based on initial findings, the minor allegedly behind the posts does not have access to any firearm or lethal weapon that could be used to carry out the purported attack.
Authorities emphasized that the case remains under active investigation. They are continuing to assess the full circumstances surrounding the posts, as well as whether the student was influenced by recent developments or events occurring in the region.
In line with child protection policies, the student is being handled with proper care, and necessary interventions will be arranged to address the root cause of the incident.
The DILG, through the Philippine National Police, assured the public that security measures are being intensified in and around the school and neighboring areas to ensure the safety of students, teachers, and residents.
Remulla also called on the public to remain vigilant but to avoid spreading unconfirmed information, which may cause unnecessary panic. Updates will be released as soon as the investigation yields more concrete details.
