The entire Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Council of Barangay Banate in Malungon, Sarangani Province, has collectively resigned, citing career opportunities, personal goals, and challenges brought by the prolonged extension of their terms following the repeated postponement of barangay and SK elections.
MALUNGON, SARANGANI PROVINCE — All members of the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Council of Barangay Banate in Malungon, Sarangani, have collectively resigned from their positions, citing personal circumstances, career opportunities, and the need to pursue their individual goals following the repeated postponement of barangay and SK elections.
SK Chairperson Phejay Pacaña confirmed the collective resignation, explaining that the decision came after careful consideration of the council members’ personal and professional situations.
According to Pacaña, the prolonged extension of their service following the postponement of the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) has created challenges for members who also want to focus on their careers, education, and other personal priorities.
The council members initially expected to complete their service within the original election schedule. However, the repeated postponement of the elections extended their responsibilities beyond their anticipated period of service.

Aside from Pacaña, the officials who resigned include SK Councilors Shaira Mae Sarania, Cristine Joy Salda, Chelsea Alexa Rafinian, Jayvee Navales, Jazz Gonzales, Xcylla Fritch Baguio, and Jeneveve Pacanza.
Also included in the resignation were SK Secretary Joannah Mae Sardido and SK Treasurer Allysa Marie Pintor.
The collective decision has generated mixed reactions among residents and social media users. Some expressed support for the young officials’ decision to prioritize their professional development and personal aspirations, while others raised concerns about the possible effects on the continuity of youth programs, projects, and activities in Barangay Banate.
The development comes after President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. signed Republic Act No. 12326 on September 24, 2026, extending the terms of barangay and SK officials to five years and moving the next regular BSKE to the second Monday of November 2028.
Under the new law, incumbent officials are allowed to continue serving under the extended term, while provisions also establish procedures for filling vacancies in SK membership.
As of the latest available reports, no official announcement has been confirmed regarding the final administrative process for filling all the positions vacated by the Barangay Banate SK Council.
Meanwhile, the full statement of SK Chairperson Phejay Pacaña explaining the reasons behind their collective resignation is available in the comment section of the original social media post.
